FOR WOMEN* - Start Your Self-Care Journey: A Quick Guide for Busy Lives
The Ultimate Guide to Self-Care for *Women and All Who Identify as Women Balancing Work, Family, and Life
But before I begin, I want to tell you something about myself ...
... and that is that I’ve always tried to be strong and independent in my life—even to the point where I’ve often neglected my own needs. I prefer to give rather than take and am always there for others, even when it pushes me to my limits. But it’s precisely because of this that I’ve learned how important it is not to forget myself.
I’m not a perfectionist, but I learn from my mistakes and grow—step by step. I’ve realized that self-care isn’t selfish; it’s a gift to yourself that allows you to show up even more for others.
Dancing Your Heart Out: Self-Care in Its Most Fun Form
I don’t go out anymore – I mean, to dance in a disco or nightclub. Somehow, those days fell behind me. 💃
But that’s not entirely true. Those days aren’t over; I don’t feel like it anymore!
Dancing to good music is still fantastic. And so relaxing! But most nights, I’m too tired to go out and, honestly, too lazy. Besides, where do women over 50 go anyway? Especially if they, like me, live in the countryside?
But instead of overthinking it, I opt for a simple, quick solution:
I live with my mom and my son in a house 🏡. I’ve also rented rooms in a second apartment for a long time, so blasting my stereo and rocking out isn’t an option!
When the mood strikes – usually in the evening after a long day – I pop my headphones into my ears and crank up the music on my iPhone! Late at night, when everyone’s already asleep.
And then I dance! "Natural" by Imagine Dragons, "Ain’t Nobody" by Felix Jaehn, or "Alors on Danse" by Stromae. It doesn’t matter as long as the beat is right. I dance until I can’t anymore. (Luckily, no one sleeps under my room 😀).
It feels so good. I’m sweating and not looking great. I don’t have any makeup on, no fancy clothes. I’m in socks or bare feet. I sway and groove. I twirl and do lunges. I smile like I have an audience watching me. And I’m the star of my little world.
A bit crazy? Sure, but that’s okay because it makes me feel incredible afterward.
When was the last time you danced? With or without an audience?
No matter how awkward you might feel – it’s all about you and how it makes you think! So go for it: Put those headphones on and dance your heart out!
