Your dad was so fortunate to have you and your mom now too. I know it can be exhausting at times, especially with children at home. But you are showing others what love and family means. Visiting my mom in her retirement facility, I see so many others that have zero help or even visits from their kids. It breaks my heart. I think it ages them even more.
You are so right about that. I’ve always known that my parents stayed younger because they had to care for Ole when I couldn’t. Even now, I see it in my mom. Most of her friends have passed away, but those who are still alive seem so much older than she does.
Social connections are essential at every stage of life, but especially in old age. They keep people engaged, give them purpose, and make them feel loved and valued. And yes, even disagreements help keep you young—because we (my Mum and I) argue, too. It would be unrealistic not to, especially when sharing a home. A little conflict is simply part of life.
